Michael Heygood is an attorney who devotes his legal career to one simple premise: in the United States today, companies and individuals alike should take responsibility and be held accountable for their own actions and, when they refuse to do so, they should be made to do so in a court of law.  It is his devotion to this straightforward singular premise that has allowed him to achieve a level of success in his legal career that he could only have dreamt of while he grew up in a small town in the gulf coast of Texas.

Michael began his legal career in a large downtown large firm representing and defending doctors, hospitals, trucking companies and other large corporations in trials and lawsuits throughout the courts of Texas.  As his legal experience and professional reputation increased, the profile of the cases and lawsuits he was involved in began to elevate.

Ultimately, Michael decided to leave the comfort of a large downtown law firm representing corporate America and changed his practice to almost exclusively representing individuals and small businesses who needed a quality and experienced voice to help them stand up for their rights in holding large corporations accountable for their actions.

In January of 2000, Michael started a law firm with a lofty and idealistic goal: to level the playing field.  He decided that it is unacceptable that only large corporations and insurance companies have the best lawyers and was determined to ensure that even the smallest and poorest voices have an opportunity to have a lawyer representing them who can stand toe-to-toe with the lawyers of corporate America.  In staying true to this ambitious goal and objective, the success and growth of Heygood, Orr & Pearson has exceeded all expectations.

Michael primarily focuses his current practice on complex litigation throughout the United States involving insurance companies, large corporations and pharmaceutical companies.  He has tried lawsuits throughout the United States and is proud to lead some of the most complex litigation in the country. He is Board Certified in Civil Trial Advocacy and Personal Injury Trial Law and AV-rated by Martindale Hubbell (the highest legal and ethical rating available for lawyers).  He has frequently and routinely been selected by his peers as one of the best lawyers in the State of Texas and has been listed for several years by Texas Monthly magazine as one of the “Super Lawyers” in the State of Texas.

Michael attended college at United States International University in San Diego, CA on a Division I basketball scholarship where he graduated cum laude with a B.A. in Human Behavior.  Upon college graduation, he attended and graduated with a J.D. from the University of Houston Law Center.    He is a member of and actively involved in numerous legal and community associations, including the State Bar of Texas, the American Bar Association, the American Association for Justice, the Texas Trial Lawyers Association, the Dallas Bar Association, the Dallas Trial Lawyers Association, the Tarrant County Bar Association and the Tarrant County Trial Lawyers Association.

Michael Heygood’s legal practice has taken him across the United States and he has been licensed and approved to practice law in over a hundred courts across more than 25 different states.  Being Board Certified in Personal Injury Trial Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization and Board Certified in Civil Trial Advocacy Law by the National Board of Trial Advocacy helps him walk into any courtroom in America and feel comfortable and at ease representing his clients’ interests.

In his career, Michael has spent his time working on complex contract and insurance litigation, life-altering personal injury cases, trucking litigation, insurance bad faith litigation, national class action and multi-district litigation, pharmaceutical litigation, business litigation, nursing home and medical negligence litigation, medical device implant litigation, automobile crashworthiness litigation and qui tam litigation.
